The centrepiece of the vibrant Notting Dale campus, The Yellow Building is both a west London landmark and home to iconic British fashion brand Monsoon.
Designed by renowned architect practice Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), this multi-award-winning building is known for its bold sunflower yellow stripes. Timeless and charismatic, yellow has long been a favourite choice amongst graphic and fashion designers, artists, engineers and architects.
But the drama does not end at the door. Making clever use of diagonal concrete grids that provide structural rigidity without the need for supporting cores, AHMM created a seven-storey-high atrium with exposed concrete interior that gives the Yellow Building a cathedral-like air. The effect is heightened by an open staircase that runs the length of the building and finished off by Monsoon’s spectacular contemporary art collection, which includes a full-sized mirrored carousel.
The internal spaces have been designed to maximise connections between staff, with large, unobstructed floors that span either side of the linear atrium, allowing light to penetrate deep into the building. Each floor features a generous landing that is perfect as an informal art gallery or meeting space.
With its cathedral-like seven-storey atrium and Monsoon’s renowned art collection, it’s hard not to be wowed as soon as you step inside The Yellow Building.
